Trek Bicycle Corporation and the MACC Fund are pleased to present the 23rd Annual Trek 100 Ride for Hope on Saturday, June 9th.

Proceeds from this great ride for a great cause support critical pediatric cancer and related blood disorder research. The Trek 100 is the mainstay of the MACC Fund’s athletic fundraisers. It is one of the largest fundraising efforts for childhood cancer and related blood disorder research in the United States.

Since 1990, the Trek 100 has contributed almost $10 million to support pediatric cancer and related blood disorder research! The Trek 100 provides large scale support for research, thanks to riders, donors, sponsors and volunteers.

Without your support, the Trek 100 could not succeed. The 23rd Annual ride through Southeastern Wisconsin begins and ends at the home of Trek Bicycle Corporation in Waterloo, Wisconsin. Located in beautiful Jefferson County, the routes will take you through America’s Heartland.

Routes are organized to be fun, yet challenging for riders of all ages and skill levels. Choose your mileage–the 100, 62, 36, or 19-mile routes provide an option for everyone. Every route is one mile closer to new cures. With every pedal stroke you provide the Gift of Hope.

The entry fee is $45 per rider and includes a 2012 Trek 100 T-Shirt, a pre-ride breakfast, snacks along the routes, and post-ride festivities. The Trek 100 is truly a “Ride for Hope.”

All riders must raise at least $1 per mile equal to the number of miles pledged to ride. Unfortunately, the $45 registration fee cannot be included in your fundraising amount. Fundraising which exceeds your minimum requirement may make you eligible to win great Trek 100 gear and bicycles! Remember every dollar raised is a dollar to fight childhood cancer and related blood disorders.

About the Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour

The Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour is a 2-day, 150 mile, fully supported cycling event that is open to riders of all ages and abilities.

Day 1: Riders pedal 75-miles north from Mequon to Manitowoc then spend the night in Manitowoc.

Day 2: Riders begin the final 75-mile stretch toward Door Country, ending in Sturgeon Bay.

One of Wisconsin’s most popular bike rides, the Scenic Shore 150 is the largest locally organized and supported event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. We were voted Favorite Charity Ride at the 2010 Feddy Awards presented by Wheel & Sprocket and the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin!

One Thousand Riders for One Million Dollars

The math is simple.

1,000 riders x $1,000 each = $1 million

If you and every rider of the 2012 Scenic Shore 150 raises $1,000, we will collectively raise one million dollars.

One million dollars to fight blood cancer
One million dollars to make patients’ lives easier
One million dollars to stop cancer rom taking another life
One million dollars to help kids like five-year-old Matthew King, last year’s honored patient hero diagnosed with T-cell leukemia, live to fulfill their dreams of becoming cowboys

On this year’s Scenic Shore 150, let’s ride for more. Let’s push ourselves beyond the ordinary, and reach for the extraordinary. Let’s continue the mission of LLS and cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Let’s raise one million dollars.

Winter Bike Gathering!

Whether the weather be cold,

or whether the weather be hot,

We will be biking whatever the weather,

whether there’s snow or there’s not!

On Wednesday, February 15th from 8-10 pm, we are gathering at Harry’s Bar & Grill to celebrate Winter Bike Week!

Winter Bike Week is Feb. 12th – 18th, and this has certainly been a great winter for biking, one worth celebrating. Because there is practically no weather that deters the dedicated winter GSB cyclist from enjoying the fresh air, the stars and the great outdoors, we doing this party al fresco, outdoors on Harry’s new deck. Booyah!

There are a lot of biking events that week, but we hope you can join with your fellow Northshore and Eastside cyclists at Harry’s to have a drink, and enjoy the big fire pit on the new outdoor deck at Harry’s. While there, you can find out the status of the draft Shorewood Village Bike Plan, and find out what GSB is working on to promote cycling in Shorewood specifically, and on the Northshore/Eastside in general. Also, if if you are not already aware of it, you can learn that evening from experienced cyclists and commuters how exciting and satisfying it is to bike in the Winter. Winter bike commuting (especially this year) is practical, enjoyable, economical and satisfying, and a great way to avoid those “dark-cold-cabin-fever-blues”.

Come dressed for an outdoor party (women dressed in fur welcome; note, if it’s really bad, we can always bail on the deck and move the party indoors). Harry’s Bar & Grill is located at 3549 Oakland Avenue (that’s a half block north of the Shorewood-Milwaukee border, conveniently located for bikers just a half block East of the Oak Leaf Trail). Harry’s is a bike-friendly place, and a great place to turn off the OLT at on a sunny day, and have a drink, or catch a bite to eat.

More fun than you’re supposed to have on a bicycle

Go Cyclo This Halloween! “7 stop ride” starts at 9am at Cafe Hollander – Downer Avenue.

The ride begins at 9:00AM; though bikers are free to join up at any stop throughout the day. There is no cost to join the ride – and all riders will receive drink specials and other “treats” at the stops as well as be eligible to win the “best costume” contest voted by their co-riders.

The crawl will make the following stops:

This free instructional clinic uses a proven “balancing first” method and gives children lots of opportunity to practice! Staffed by professionals from the Shorewood Police Department and Rainbow Jersey Bicycles in Shorewood.
